Trevor, Pat, Ben & Jay would like to welcome you to our family run award winning country pub in the City of Durham. Our food is freshly prepared, locally sourced & home cooked. We have dishes to suit all however if you do not see your favourite dish from a lobster thermadore to a pan haggerty or dietary requirements we will try to accommodate you.
If its drinks your after then Ben my Son will be willing to help you with his passion for Drinks, knowledge of his real ales, 87 Gins, 60 Whiskies, Vodkas, Cocktails & Wines. Ask him for his recommendations.
I have been a chef all of my life born in Sandbanks, Poole in Dorset to a fishing family where I have followed in my fathers footsteps as a chef and is where my passion of seafood came from.
I started my career at 15 years old in the Carlton Hotel Five Star Hotel Group and at the Dormy Hotel with 2 AA Rosette Restaurant in Ferndown Dorset, this is where I was classically trained. I then travelled abroad to the Channel Islands, Europe and ended up in Saudi Arabia cooking for Kings, Princes & Dignitaries. This is where I learnt my diversity of cooking.
Then I met my Wife in Sunderland and the rest is History!
I still always strive to serve and cook the best produce which is available daily from locally made cheeses and butters, grazing cattle, pigs and sheep where the fields are in view of Durham Cathedral to our local slaughter houses and local butchers from Wingate & Lakelands Produce (Pioneer) our Fish is sourced from North Shields and Sunderland Quayside and from our local Farms where we get Finchale Abbey honey, fruit chutneys and seasonal vegetables.
